Octogenarians have been the foundation pillars of our Armed Forces, they deserve Nation’s respect - NFMC
The primary Aim of Navy Foundation is
Welfare of Veterans and Veer Naris. NFMC has been following this objective in
letter and spirit. NFMC is endowed with an added quality Empathy, that it
displays in abandon. The quality that quintessentially conveys that I
understand your pain, grief and condition. Last year NFMC conducted a lovely Sammelan on
27th Mar for 37 NFMC Veer Naris, including 92 yrs young Veer Nari
Mrs Kamla Bhushan accompanied by her smart daughter Neerja Malik and Veer Nari
Mrs Poonam Gulati who drove all the way from Pune. The Catwalk by the Veer
Naris with 9 elegant ladies gracefully strolling the ramp of Sea-Lounge of IMSC
was indeed the show stealer that was followed-up by the enthralling Corner
elimination dance,

This year it was decided to upgrade the Sammelan with
addition of Octogenarians and their lovely spouses. There were over 100
registrations for the event scheduled on 22 Jan 2023. Cdr Vadhera brought out a post regarding the
conduct of the festivities including Karaoke singing and fun & games for
both Veer Naris and Octogenarians.
The Managing Committee was at the venue at 1030 hrs to
discuss and finalise the last bit nitty gritties of the Fun games. The Managing
Committee members cheerfully greeted the guests as they started entering Sea
lounge commencing the scheduled 1130 hrs, with the welcome drink of choice being served. The Senior Veterans to grace the
event included our former CNS Admiral Vijai Shekhawat, VAdm IC Rao and RAdm DN
Thukral. We are grateful to RAdm Dev Thukral for bringing in Sponsorship for the
event. Our revered sponsors were Mr
Pradeep Saxena, former President of Rotary Club and Mr Rajendra Bhambhani with their charming ladies. The Veer Naris and Octogenarian members introduced themselves on Mic as Manmeet Singh passed the Mic around and Meena snapped and captured them on her camera.
At the scheduled 1230 hrs, Cdr Vadhera initiated the
Karaoke session in his melodious voice, ‘Pukarta Chala hoon main’. The session of Karaoke comprised of a few
Bollywood songs, mostly of the bygone era. The crooners who lent their
melodious voices to enthrall the audience were Cdr Vijay Vadhera, Mrs Mukti
Ghosh, Mrs Sutapa Das, Mr Pradeep Saxena, former President Rotary club, Raj and Cdr HC Medha.
There were Solos as well as duets. While the musical session was in progress,
Lunch was being served. The delectable Lunch was a multicuisine affair topped-up with delicious Kulfi as the Dessert. After Lunch there were fun and games for Veer Naris and Octogenarian couples that comprised of Musical chairs (Veernaris), Passing the Parcel (for VNs and Octogenariana), Corner elimination dance(Veer Naris), spot dance and most colourfully dressed Octogenarian. The conduct of games went off smoothly.
Cdr Vadhera presented a Box of Almonds gift wrapped in
nautical designer paper along with an NFMC greetings card to all the Veer Naris
and Octogenarians present. Which was followed by Prize distribution to the
Contest games winners as follows
a) Musical Chairs : Veer Nari Mrs Betty Gomes
b) Spot Dance : Cdr and Mrs OP Bhandari
c) Corner elimination Dance : Veer Nari Mrs Suparna Debnath
d) Best dancer : Veer Nari Mrs Kunj Bali
e) Best Karaoke Singers : Veer Naris Mrs Sutapta Das
& Mrs Mukti Ghosh
f) Passing the Parcel(Ladies): Veer Nari Anuprita Paranjpe
g) Passing the parcel (Octos) : Capt PK Jindal
h) Most colourfully dressed Octogenarian: Cmde B Uppal
At the Sayonara time the glint in their eyes of Veer Naris and senior Veterans conveyed their appreciation to the organizers as they warmly shook hands prior departure. It was a funtastic Day conceptualized and organized by Cdr Vijay Vadhera, NM(G), President NFMC, and assisted by all committee members and their charming better halves. The success of the event can be assessed by the fact that each and every Veer Nari and Senior Veterans Whatsapped their appreciation and rang up the President after reaching their homes. It has motivated the NFMC Committee to perform even better, in the future events and towards the welfare of Veterans and Veer Naris.
