Friends, Last year this day, I was delighted to get a call from Cdr Vineet Wason for an invite to a play at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra…We reached just in time to relish the almost 2 hrs melodrama produced by Raell Padamsee….The stars Sameer Soni and Mandira Bedi have been regaling the houseful audiences at various locs with their stupendous performance for the past 13 years….

The play reflects on the emotional marital disharmony and sensitive discords that we all go through often in our lives…the crests and troughs of emotions that rage and wreck our lives…What made this Act look authentic was the unhindered and hilarious use of unadulterated profany that we observe in everyday Life .The perfect timing of dialogue delivery created hysterical roar in the jam packed auditorium…After the play we were privileged to interact with the star-cast.

Meena and I, have known Sameer Soni from 1992, when he was cast in his first TV Serial ‘Samandar’, Produced and directed by Wg Cdr AS Bedi…Most of the shooting for the serial was conducted at Naval Air Station Goa, where I had been appointed the Base LtCdr (Flying) and Sameer was cast as a young Naval Aviator…I along with Meena and kid had gone to the Naval Canteen on a Sunday afternoon where the shoot was in progress…Wg Cdr Bedi was quite amused by our year old Aakash and instantly cast him and Meena for a fire scene in which the Hero, Sameer rescues Aakash and hands him over to the mother…..Short scene, shot 25 years ago, but Sameer was visibly amused, when reminded. A down to earth actor, with immense talent.

As per Wiki, Samir Soni is an Indian film and television actor and a former model. Soni made his debut in the Hindi serial Samandar based on Navy officers. In 1996, he appeared as Ashok Mathur in Doordarshan's A Mouthful Of Sky. He made his film debut in China Gate, which was followed by cameo appearances. In 2003, Soni appeared in the film Baghban and played lead roles in Basti and Kahan Ho Tum. In that same year, Soni also worked in the television series Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. In 2004, he worked in Saaksshi. Soni featured as one of the contestants in the reality television show Bigg Boss 4 in 2010.

An evening to remember, thanks to Cdr Vineet Wason and his good lady Sunita…Grateful !
